Ensemble and Audition Information
Lakewood High School has six different ensembles to choose from:
• Marching Band (no audition required, however you must be enrolled in another ensemble)
• Band 1-2 or 3-8 for returning students (no audition required)
• Orchestra 1-2 or 3-8 for returning students (no audition required)
• Symphonic Winds
• Philharmonic Orchestra
• Jazz Band
Symphonic Winds
Symphonic Winds is our top performing Concert Band. Students in the ensemble are held to a high musical standard. We perform at festivals and community events. If you would like to audition, please submit a google drive link with your audition video and a media release form (see below) to mpalmer@lbschools.net AND eshegina@lbschools.net Audition Requirements: 2 Octave Chromatic Scale from your lowest to highest comfortable note and back down. The following concert pitch major scales: Bb, Db, B (as many octaves as capable). An excerpt, of approximately 30 seconds of length, demonstrating your best musicianship.
Philharmonic Orchestra
Philharmonic Orchestra is our top performing Orchestra. Students in the ensemble are held to a high musical standard. We perform at festivals and community events. Jazz Band
Jazz Band is our highest performing specialty ensemble. The Jazz Band is typically made up of 10-12th grade students, and
occasionally a few 9th grade students. Jazz Band is made up of the following instruments: Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet,
Electric Guitar, Bass (double bass and electric bass), Piano, Vibraphone, and Drum Set. We perform at many festivals and
community events. If you would like to audition, or you play a different instrument that may fit in our ensemble, please

**If you know someone who wants to be involved with the Marching Band, but they don’t play an instrument. Encourage
them to join the Color Guard!! Contact our Color Guard Coach, Justin Wells: jwells@lbschools.net for more info.**
Band 1-2
Our band is a great place to learn about concert band music from a variety of cultures and time-periods. This class is for students who play the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium/baritone, or tuba. You do need some previous experience to be in this class, but whether you’ve played for 1 year or many, this is a great place for you! While no audition is required, if you consider yourself to be a more experienced player, please consider seeing Mrs. Palmer for advanced placement. We play music from all styles and perform in concerts, at festivals, and take a fun trip to Knott’s or Disneyland. If you’ve never played before but wish you had, please contact Mrs. Palmer and we’ll help you get started!
Jazz Band 1-2
Are you a passionate musician who is interested in exploring jazz and popular music styles? Our award-winning jazz band is by audition only, however, no previous JAZZ experience is required. Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Drum Set players contact Mrs. Palmer and schedule your audition today!
Orchestra 1-2
Orchestra is a wonderful class for students who play violin, viola, cello, and bass. If you are an advanced piano player, you may audition for one of the two spots in this ensemble as well. String players do need some previous experience to be in this class, but whether you’ve played for 1 year or many, this is a great place for you! While no audition is required, if you consider yourself to be a more experienced player, please consider seeing Mrs. Palmer for advanced placement. We play music from all styles and perform in concerts, at festivals, and take a fun trip to Knott’s or Disneyland.
